Technologies Reference

Technologies are permanent upgrades that apply across your entire empire. Unlike buildings, which are planet-specific, researched technologies benefit all your planets simultaneously. This reference covers all 16 technologies available in the game.

Drive Technologies

Drive technologies increase the speed of your ships. Each drive type powers different ships, and upgrading the relevant drive makes those ships faster. Some ships switch to a better drive engine at certain tech levels, gaining a massive speed boost.

Technology Effect per Level
Combustion Drive +10% speed per level for Combustion-powered ships.
Impulse Drive +20% speed per level for Impulse-powered ships.
Hyperspace Drive +30% speed per level for Hyperspace-powered ships.

Combat Technologies

Combat technologies improve the fighting capabilities of all your ships and defenses. These three technologies are multiplicative with each other, making even small upgrades very impactful in battle. Keep them balanced and as high as possible.

Technology Effect per Level
Weapons Technology +10% attack power per level for all ships and defenses.
Shield Technology +10% shield strength per level for all ships and defenses.
Armor Technology +10% hull points per level for all ships and defenses.
Keep Combat Techs Balanced
Weapons, Shields, and Armor should be kept at similar levels. They multiply each other's effectiveness. A balanced 10/10/10 is far better than 15/5/10.

Economy Technologies

Economy technologies improve energy production and resource efficiency. Energy Tech boosts Fusion Reactor output, while Plasma Tech provides a percentage bonus to mine production at high levels.

Technology Effect per Level
Energy Technology +10% Fusion Reactor output per level. Prerequisite for other techs.
Plasma Technology +1% Titanium, +0.66% Graphene, +0.33% Deuterium production per level.

Utility Technologies

Utility technologies provide essential empire management capabilities. Espionage Tech improves your spying ability and defense against spies, Computer Tech increases your maximum number of simultaneous fleet slots, and Intergalactic Research Network connects your labs for faster research.

Technology Effect per Level
Espionage Technology +1 spy level per level. Reveals more categories in enemy spy reports.
Computer Technology +1 fleet slot per level.
Intergalactic Research Network +1 connected Research Lab per level.
Important!
Computer Technology directly limits how many fleets you can have active. Get it to at least level 5 early, then push higher as you become more active.

Prerequisite Technologies

These technologies are primarily required to unlock other technologies, ships, and buildings. While they do not provide direct combat bonuses, they are essential stepping stones in your technology tree.

Technology Effect per Level
Hyperspace Technology Prerequisite for Hyperspace Drive. Enables advanced ships.
Laser Technology Prerequisite only. Unlocks Laser defenses and advanced techs.
Ion Technology Prerequisite only. Unlocks Ion Cannon and advanced techs.

Colonization

Astrophysics determines how many planets you can colonize. Each two levels allow one additional colony, making it one of the most important research lines for expanding your empire.

Technology Effect per Level
Astrophysics +1 colony slot per 2 levels. +1 expedition slot per 2 levels.
Pro Tip
Astrophysics is expensive but critical. More planets means exponentially more production. Prioritize it every few mine levels.

Endgame Technology

Graviton Technology is the ultimate research achievement, requiring enormous energy to complete. It unlocks the Death Star, the most powerful ship in the game.

Technology Effect per Level
Graviton Technology Unlocks Death Star construction.

Research Time Formula

Time = (Titanium + Graphene) / (1000 x (1 + Lab_Level) x GameSpeed)
Research time depends on cost and your Research Lab level. With Intergalactic Research Network, connected labs combine their levels.
Example: A tech costing 8,000 Titanium + 4,000 Graphene with Lab level 8: (12,000) / (1,000 x 9 x 1) = 1.33 hours.
